CQ-Roll Call’s Anna Palmer and Matt Murray Win the Lucile Harris Bluford Spotlight Award for Journalism Highlighting Efforts in Diversity

Washington, D.C. (July 14, 2010) — CQ-Roll Call Group, the nation's leading provider of news, analysis and information on Congress, today announced that Anna Palmer and Matt Murray have won the Washington Government Relations Group's Lucile Harris Bluford Spotlight Award for Journalism Highlighting Efforts in Diversity.

Palmer's and Murray's June 2009 Roll Call story, "For Black Lobbyists, Progress is Real but Big Challenges Remain," was praised by The Washington Government Relations Group, a nonpartisan association for African-American Lobbyists, for highlighting "… the success of government relations professionals, bringing to light a long list of achievements ..." They also proclaimed "Your diligence in the areas of inclusiveness and progress has not gone unnoticed and should serve as a model for other to follow." The story is available at:

The award is named in memory of Lucile Harris Bluford, a pioneering black journalist who attempted to integrate the University of Missouri in 1939. It honors excellence in highlighting efforts in diversity. Palmer and Murray will receive the award at The Washington Government Relations Group's dinner tonight at the Embassy of Finland.

Anna Palmer is a staff writer covering lobbying. She came to Roll Call in 2007 from Legal Times, where she covered the intersection of money and politics. Prior to that, she covered the lobbying industry for the business newsletter Influence.

Matthew Murray came to Roll Call in 2006 as a staff writer covering lobbying, campaign finance issues and fundraising. Before joining Roll Call, he was a deputy editor at Congressional Quarterly.
