CQ.com Tip of the Week

Getting Ready for Budget Season

This month's update comes from Charles Tresky. Charles is a Senior Account Manager who supports his clients on all of our products from research to advocacy.
As we start the new year, we also begin a new budget cycle. The President is due to submit his budget to Congress on Monday, February 6. Congress then begins working to put together the twelve appropriations bills that will fund the government in fiscal year 2013.
In addition to the great resources found in CQ BudgetTracker, you can use the search functions of CQ.com to be alerted when things move on the appropriations bills that matter to you even before bills are formally introduced. Just follow these quick steps.
- Click Advanced Search in the lower navigation bar.
- Select the sources to search for your notifications. (The image below shows the sources for appropriations bills.)
- Click Add search option to the left of the keywords box.
- Click on one of the sources in More Options For... section.
- Click Appropriations Bills.
- From the box that appears, choose the bill(s) you would like to be notified on and click Search.
- From the results page, click Save Search as Alert.
- Give the alert a name.
- Choose the delivery time(s).
- Click Save.

The search results will show all past and current appropriations bills but moving forward the alert will only generate emails on new spending bills.
Don't forget, your Account Manager, {CQ_AM}, is available to help if you have any questions.

More Information in CQ Member Profiles
Earlier this year, we announced our exclusive partnerships with Deltek and Dun and Bradstreet to bring information about government contracts and grants, and major companies in each Representative's district and Senator's state.
On Monday, January 9, we rolled out the new CQ Member Profiles. We added three sections to every profile, one for the largest government contractors, one for the biggest grant winners, and one that shows the largest companies. For Representatives we list the top ten in each category, and for Senators we list the top twenty-five.

We know having this information will make you more effective when working with Congress and we've included this new datat at no additional cost.
