Manager, Creative Services

CQ-Roll Call Group seeks a Manager, Creative Services to work with the director of brand strategy and the Manager of Creative Services to execute a wide variety of design projects that help communicate the value of CQ-Roll Call Group offerings and position the company as a world-class provider of premium content and tools. This position may transition from temporary to permanent, based on business needs.

This position will be required to manage a broad portfolio of projects in accordance with established styles and guides, communicate the status of projects in order to guide expectations and produce high-quality work. This position is responsible for embracing internal stakeholder guidance and input, while leveraging his/her training and expertise to guide the project toward an optimal outcome.

Accountable For:

  • Collaborating with key individuals in multiple departments to design marketing and sales materials, including print and online advertisements, marketing collateral, direct marketing efforts, sales presentations, product logos and more.
  • Develop marketing copy for design projects.
  • Designing and executing company materials including business cards, letterhead, envelopes and more.
  • Managing workload and deadlines, communicating project statuses with key individuals within various departments.
  • Enforcing the company brand style guide.

Essential Skills and Capabilities:

  • 5+ years of relevant design experience.

Staff Accountant

CQ-Roll Call Group was formed from the merger of two of Washington’s most respected and relied upon sources for information on Congress – Congressional Quarterly and Roll Call. As our combined finance team of 19 has successfully integrated, we now seek a Staff Accountant to support the Accounts Payable process and to maintain various balance sheet account reconciliations.

CQ-Roll Call Group utilizes PeopleSoft for their accounting and has a fully integrated “workflow” system to handle electronic processing of A/P invoices approvals and vouchers. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate their drive to advance their skills and responsibilities as well as show a knack for problem solving and delivering results.

Accountable For:

  • Full Accounts Payable responsibilities split with another Staff Accountant.
  • Account reconciliation responsibility for numerous A/P related balance sheet accounts.
  • Additional support for the Controller depending on skill set.

Essential Skills and Capabilities:

  • Degree in Accounting.
  • 3-5 years accounting experience, especially Accounts Payable and account reconciliation.

Director, Network Engineering

CQ-Roll Call Group seeks a Director of Network Engineering to oversee the day-to-day and long-term management of the CQ-Roll Call business networks and systems, including all publicly available web sites, and editorial publishing systems. Plan and manage budgets for hardware and IT needs, including server upgrades for all internal business and publicly available systems. Work with developers and database engineers to plan system and network configurations. Work with other IT directors to plan hardware and software deployments. Work with upper management to determine network and hardware capital and expense budgets.

Accountable For:

  • Maintaining uptime and availability of all business systems, including MS Exchange servers; phone and voicemail systems; editorial publishing systems and databases; internal network, routers and firewalls; and other key business databases and servers.
  • Planning for the efficient operation of all internally and externally hosted data centers.
  • Monitoring all internal and external systems to ensure maximum uptime. Oversee response to system outages.
  • Establishing measurements and expectations for evaluating system performance.
  • Hiring and management of network and system support staff.
  • Designing primary and backup systems for all mission critical servers, data storage and network devices.
  • Provide technical leadership in areas of expertise and mentor more junior team members in terms of best practices and processes.
  • Works with Help Desk staff and management on projects and systems affecting internal network and desktop systems.
  • Providing training and technical assistance to development and support teams.
  • Monitoring system performance, including performance meters and error logs, and determines necessary upgrades to modules to solve system problems.
  • Maintaining weekly report of completed tasks, projects and issues, including estimates of time spent on each project.

Essential Skills and Capabilities:

  • Seven or more years UNIX Systems administration and Cisco Networking experience, including management and or team leadership.
  • Experience with server virtualization strategies.
  • Proficient in DNS administration and other IP network management skills.
  • Proficient in firewall and router configuration and management.
  • Familiarity with Apache and other web server configuration.
  • Ability to quickly learn new network-based skills and systems.
  • Detail oriented, strong organizational and time management skills required.
  • Demonstrated competence in developing efficient and effective technical solutions to diverse and complex business problems.

Account Manager

The Capwiz and Knowlegis Account Manager’s primary responsibility is to pro-actively establish, nurture, and grow relationships with their assigned clients in order to increase and improve usage, retain existing customers, and identify additional areas where up-sell opportunities exist. Account Managers work cooperatively with staff across several departments to provide the highest level of customer satisfaction. Legislative Action Reporter

Legislative Action Analyst

CQ-Roll Call Group seeks a full-time Legislative Analyst for its Legislative Action team to cover measures scheduled for House floor action, primarily for House Action Reports. This analyst likely will handle legislation dealing with health, education, labor, judicial affairs and the environment, as well as three appropriations bills. The analyst will be expected to describe in detail the major provisions of bills, as well as relevant background information and anticipated floor amendments and will be responsible for summarizing arguments made by supporters and opponents of major bills, among other tasks. The analyst will work with legislative text, committee reports and other documents and is expected to build and maintain relationships with sources both within CQ-Roll Call Group and on Capitol Hill. Demonstrated research and writing experience is required and successful candidates will have extensive experience with Congress, public policy or both. Vice President, IT

CQ-Roll Call Group is seeking a Vice President of IT to be responsible for managing and planning CQ-Roll Call Group’s infrastructure, processes and applications. This includes all data centers (in-house and co-located), technical service centers, help desks, communication networks (voice and data), applications program development and acquisition, and computer systems operations.

The VP of IT reviews all computerized and manual systems and processes; information processing equipment and software for acquisition, storage and retrieval; and definition of the strategic direction of all information processing and communication systems and operations. He or she provides overall IT management and definition within CQ-Roll Call Group including responsibility for providing a leadership role in the day to day operations of the Information Technology functions as well as providing direction as the Company grows through internal growth and external acquisition.

Accountable For:

  • Leads the process to identify scope and prioritize strategic initiatives involving IT resources.
  • Prepares Company objectives and budgets to facilitate the orderly and efficient capture, storage, processing and dissemination of information.

Design Director

CQ-Roll Call Group is seeking a Design Director to oversee the design and graphical presentation of Roll Call and rollcall.com. The design director works with the director of art and graphics to ensure design consistency in print and online, advises on layout decisions for Roll Call, designs special sections for the paper, and oversees the visual design of rollcall.com. As a member of the CQ-Roll Call Group Art and Graphics team, the design director participates in development of visual design and interface ideas for other products as well. Candidates must have significant experience in print and online design, including editing graphics, photos and layouts within a news context and managing a production team. Software Engineer (CA)

Essential Skills and Capabilities:

The ideal candidate has at least two to three years’ professional experience developing and maintaining SQL-type relational databases (e.g., Oracle or Access) and written and oral communication skills.
